About listing

Our cozy cottage has an unobstructed view of the beach and ocean. There is a large deck with table and chairs for reading and sunbathing while watching the world go by. We recently renovated and updated with a new tile floor and new shower enclosure. Our furnishings are upscale and kid friendly. We find that even very small children are able to play right on the beach protected from the wind in our private roped-off beach lot area. The house is very well equipped with a BBQ on the deck and all the things that you need to cook up a relaxing meal in the compact kitchen. Additionally, we have a Gourmet Grill and Panini Sandwich maker. Parents can sit on the deck and watch their children play on the beach. Walking to town is one of the pleasures of our location. Stinson Beach can be sunny while the rest of the Coast is ''fogged in'' as we have a wonderful micro-climate. The Pacific is really cold for swimming and the surfers - who you can watch from the house- almost always wear wetsuits. Boogie boarding is a favorite sport and many intrepid surfers have gotten their start Boogie Boarding at Stinson Beach. Boogie Boards and wetsuits are available for rent in town. The town is charming with cute restaurants and a children's playground with slides and swings. When you're ready for a hike there are fabulous hiking trails within 5 minutes of the house. One of the most famous is the Dipsea Trail which is a wondrous walk beside a running creek, beneath giant redwoods culminating in a 10 foot ladder climb - really breathtaking. Great beach-combing and shell collecting possibilities abound on the beach.

We chose this cottage because it was right on the beach and we were not disappointed! Fun people watching, easy walk to town and local restaurants, great deck and lovely views, and the cottage is so well appointed. Angela was efficient and prompt with all communication. We visited in the winter but the fireplace kept the cottage warm and cozy. We definitely will come back and will recommend to friends! 14 December 2012 - 05:55:11

My mother, sister, and I spent the weekend in this adorable cottage, which is directly ON the beach. The photo from the deck is not taken with some fancy photo lens. You step off the deck and you are ON the beach! We could not have asked for a more perfect setting. The front bedroom has an uninterrupted view of the ocean, and the back bedroom has a skylight making it light and bright. The living space was very comfortable and everything we needed was available. We were able to completely relax here and look forward to returning. Angela, the owner, was so kind and making the arrangements with her was effortless. 13 February 2013 - 22:45:36

Overdue but here it goes! We stay in this cottage several times a year. It would be more but unfortunately it is booked frequently. The private sand/yard is the best as you have your own beach even during the peak season. The deck has an unobstructed view of the beach, sunsets, south end of Stinson and if you look east Mother Tam towers over you. The cottage is perfect in size, location and personality - smack on the beach! Master bedroom facing the ocean. Location, location, location!! Photos are accurate yet do it no justice. The cottage and the property are ALWAYS clean and well maintained! The owner is always helpful and has intimate knowledge of trails on Tam, fresh produce/fresh crab and other secrets of the area. We totally recommend this to our family & friends. Activities: well there is everything beach! Bring binos for watching birds, whales, dolphins and oodles of super cool dogs. The local store is well stocked and the 2-3 restaurants in town have a great selection. We could give it 10 stars but 5 is the limit. 12 November 2013 - 04:38:13

This is our 3rd visit to this cozy and comfortable cottage on the beach and we have never been disappointed. It is clean, bright and fresh with everything that you need. Angela is so accommodating and friendly. This is a dog-friendly beach, so our dog was in "dog heaven". Once we arrived, we never had a reason to drive anywhere else. The little village is a short, easy walk and you can pick up anything that you may need at the grocery store, bookstore or various eateries. We have stayed at other homes, but we prefer the size and location of this property which has been just perfect for our girls weekend. Sitting on the deck and walking along the shoreline while the dog played in the water was so enjoyable. This is just the perfect spot if you want to be right on the beach with an unobstructed view of the ocean. I have recommended this cottage to friends and family. We look forward to coming back next year. Thank you, Angela. 14 November 2013 - 18:01:52
  5. My adult son & our dogs stayed at this cottage the week of Christmas-2013, & had a wonderful Stinson visit. The listing description & photos were accurate, & the property very clean & well maintained. We parked the car in the provided parking spot & never touched it til we had to depart. The cottage is well laid out & very comfortable. Plenty of hot water for showers. Great woodstove to break the evening chill. The deck is good sized which the photo doesn't really show. The Weber BBQ, table, 4 chairs, & chaise lounge make it a wonderful viewing spot without being crowded. The lot provides a large front beach area that is roped off to form a buffer. You can't beat the location. The only drawback is that with such good reviews, the available occupancy will dwindle. I have already recommended it to several friends. We have visited Stinson before & knew of the corner store & how well stocked it is. However, we brought most of our foods, etc. with us so shopped there once. We always find Stinson both people & dog friendly and look forward to staying there again. 03 January 2014 - 21:38:30

Awesome, awesome, awesome location! The group of four of us returned after 3 nights last week - temperatures in the 70's, blue sky, absolutely beautiful! Lot's of time on the beach, frisbee throwing, picture taking, walking, etc. Porch was excellent - no matter the time of day. Hiked on Mt. Tam just behind the beach house. Couldn't have been a better location. Everything was great, will send the owner a couple suggestions that might help out, but would absolutely recommend this to anyone. Parking limited to 2 spaces (sorry Angela - and thanks!) We did eat at the Parkside Cafe - amazing food. A little pricey, but fresh, unique food. 27 January 2014 - 19:07:26

.... we're back. Listing description/location are Accurate! This rental is way better than the photos reflect. Property is always clean & well maintained. Booking with the owner is seemless. I/We recommend this place to our family and our friends. Once again our stay here (10 days this time) was perfect. The 70+ degree days in mid winter did not hurt. We picked up fresh crab off the boat from Bolinas (Don Murch) & fresh produce from the honor-system farmer's market in Bolinas. We explored Duxbury tide pools on a low tide and hit a different trail on Mt. Tam most days. This cottage has always been clean, cozy and well equipped. Thanks Angela, our stay was a great way to begin my recent retirement. 09 February 2014 - 11:43:09

This was my second stay at this lovely duplex. The location could not be better. The deck and private beach are sheltered from the wind and the walk to town for whatever you need is minimal. The unit itself is charming, cozy and decorated very nicely. In my opinion, the photos don't do it justice. My pup and I feel right at home there. Angela goes out of her way to provide you with everything you need to enjoy your stay and was a very gracious hostess. It's always sad to leave...I hope to be back soon. 06 April 2014 - 03:40:47

We were charmed by this beach house, and the owner, Angela. We felt that we really experienced what living on the California coastline was all about. We are from Oklahoma where the summers are hot. It was pleasantly cool, and the sun was mild. We woke to an ocean view, walked the beach (my husband even saw sea anemone down by the huge boulders on the beach at low tide), sat on the deck and watched the beach and people enjoying the beach and trying to learn to surf. Everywhere there were happy children and dogs enjoying the beach with the adults. The water is fairly cold, so people surfing used wet suits. What amazed us were the families who brought out beach blankets, picnics, etc., and just truly enjoyed being on the beach for the whole entire day. We felt so privileged to enjoy the beach and come up and wash our feet off at the sprayer on the deck, so we wouldn't have to get sand all over. We spent alternate days enjoying the beach, reading, taking naps, eating around town or bringing it back to our beach house--with taking amazing day trips. Muir Woods (a dream place that I've been wanting to visit for 35+ years) is only 3-4 miles away, and you can pay $20 for the entire family on an annual pass, and go visit the serene Redwoods as often as you like. We also visited Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. We visited Point Reyes Light House, and it was beyond words. We loved the Earthquake Trail (seeing the line of wooden poles marking the fault line) at Bear Valley Nature Park. I wish I had been in better shape for this area, because the day we visited, they had a kayak group being led by a Ranger, and I believe they were going to camp overnight at whatever spot they kayaked to. My husband has been wanting to see bioluminescent algae in the water, and we thought we'd have to go to Puerto Rico to see that, but they had sunset tour kayak rides near Bolinas, that had the bioluminescent algae as their high point. My husband was so regretful he wasn't able to make that tour. We missed cheering for the famous Dipsea Race from Mill Valley to Stinson Beach by two days--to our regret! At Muir Woods, they have a DVD you can by about the man, Jack Kirk, who raced this race for 68 years, until he was 96 yrs old! It's called Dipsea Demon. We had the most stimulating, interesting, relaxing vacation, and hope that you will be able to do the same. If you rigorously hike, surf or ride bicycles in the mountains, you will be in paradise here! 07 June 2014 - 18:57:31

What is not to love about this fabulous cottage and dear Angela? It was such a daily pleasure to wake up and fall asleep on Stinson Beach. I spent a bit over 4 weeks here and found every single thing about the cottage superb! It just sparkles. It felt like home within hours of my arrival and there were many days I only left to walk the beach. Angela was such a gracious hostess and the accommodations could not have been any nicer. Stinson offers so much and San Francisco is just over the hill. The residents quickly became friends and the community is filled with trustworthiness, gentleness, kindness and ready smiles. Some people choose to travel the world when they retire....I just want to return to this very house each summer for the rest of my days. 20 September 2014 - 01:41:14

We were just thinking about our wonderful time at Stinson Beach last Memorial Day & I realized I had not left a review. This little duplex is perfect. Great for a small family, couple or friends. Your own piece of sand so you can sit back on the patio and relax or get up early and claim a piece of the beach as it is directly there. Everything you need is at the "cottage" and it is clean and charming. If you have a dog that is well mannered you will love the dog friendly location on the beach. If you are a walker you will as well since it is a short enjoyable jaunt into the cute little town. Grab a few steaks at the corner market and BBQ while watching the sun set or have a nice meal in town. The words beach front are the perfect words for this place; make your coffee and sit on the patio and watch the world come alive. Perfection! If you have a small child you will feel comforted that there is a private beach area directly in front of the cottage for safe play. The owner Angela resides next door but don't be alarmed she's a wonderful lady who you will only see when you arrive or perhaps coming or going. The beach house is quiet, safe feeling and inviting. We are trying to figure out when we can get back! 26 October 2014 - 21:58:04

We loved everything about our stay at this sweet beach house. It was perfect for our family of four and Angela was just as lovely as could be. Our two young sons were delighted to roll right out of the house on to the sand and my husband and I were in heaven every night falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing. We are already talking about making reservations for next year. Thank you Angela! We'll be back soon. 10 September 2015 - 05:04:21

We were very comfortable in Angela's place. It is right on the beach, everything is walkable. We heard a local character recite a Christmas poem in the post office, had great food, and enjoyed exploring. If you want sleek and modern, you won't like this place, but if you want comfortable relaxation, this is it. 12 December 2017 - 19:11:00

The house is perfectly situated on the beach, making the views fabulous and the access so easy. The sound of the waves added to the ambience. The house had everything you needed to be comfortable. We will definitely be back. Thank you Angela!! 04 December 2017 - 16:08:00

Plusses: Cute house right on the beach, small but well-equipped kitchen, comfortable furniture, great deck, close to town, takes dogs! My experience: I came out with my dogs for a 5-night solo getaway at the beach. Monday had been super rainy, and when I arrived on Tuesday and opened the door, was hit by a complex combination of unpleasant smells--cleaning supplies and maybe something else. The house seemed to have been shut up tight for a few days. So I opened up windows and doors to air it out. I'm on the sensitive side of normal re: chemical smells so I often air out places when I arrive. The night was chilly with open windows but the bed covers were warm. Something bothered my eyes and felt bad in my chest so I took a benadryl. The next day odors were diminishing, but again felt need for benadryl at night. The next morning I examined more closely, and saw mold in some window slides, and on the bathroom ceiling. I saw the landlady on her deck and mentioned it to her, and showed her. She brought over and handed me a bleach spray and paper towels and assured me it wasn't a big deal and could be wiped right off. She told me she had an appointment in the city but would check back later. The window ones did wipe right off, and the air immediately felt better. I couldn't reach the bathroom ceiling, so I just kept the door closed. That night something still was getting to me in the bedroom. Looking around some more I saw that the wicker headboard had a buildup of dust behind it. When I removed that to the back bedroom, the air in the room finally felt good to breathe. I also wiped off substantial dust on top of some picture frames, and moved a dusty wicker basket from the living room to the handily shut-off back room. I informed the landlady about the headboard. She remained distant and a bit prickly. She didn't come over to look again. I probably should also mention that the kitchen blinds looked like they hadn't been dusted or cleaned in a long time. The weather improved, and I had some great beach time and enjoyed both inside and out of the house. I vacillated about writing this review, but decided it's good information for the chemically and odor-sensitive out there and the landlady seems unreceptive, and I suspect she would dismiss a private note from me. Finally: I got my deposit returned with some taken off because the cleaners said that a pillow was missing. Does she really think I took a pillow? Apparently so, as she's keeping the money. 18 January 2018 - 20:41:00

This is a darling little home with a fantastic view. The problem is it had the most overwhelming smell of mold. I had to use my inhaler frequently and I had my daughter bring an air filtration device, as she was headed into town to stay at a nearby property. Even with the air filter he smell was still strong. The property owner who lives next-door came by on the first day to say a plumber would be coming later that day to fix a leak under the kitchen sink. Under the kitchen cupboard the board was sunk downward with moisture and it was obvious that this took some time. There was mold under it coming up very slightly at the edges. It was probably cleaned but nothing but taking the board out and drying out the moisture will get rid of the mold. All my things smell like mold now. I have to wash the clothes I didn't wear and extra blankets I brought because they smell terrible. My question is how you could live next door and let the moisture get to the point that the board under the cupboard began to curve downward and the place reeks of mold. It is not legal for landlords in CA to knowingly rent a property with mold. I do not know about vacation rentals. The problem is that there are common health risks for certain people when it comes to mold. If a tenant went to hospital with severe respiratory issues there is the potential for a legitimate legal action. Fortunately I was just very uncomfortable. Otherwise the view is perfect and it is a darling little unit. 24 October 2013 - 06:36:35

A shabby chic cottage right on the sand. Everything you need. Nothing fancy, everything functional. Close to town and a long stretch of beach right out your door. Owner is friendly and accommodating, but honors your privacy. Dog friendly and the sound of the ocean surrounds you all the time. Wonderful two weeks here! 18 November 2017 - 16:23:00

We had great family holiday in this beach cottage. We pretty much spent most of the days outside, going for long beach walks. Our daughter loved playing in th sand and made use of the many beach toys provided. The cottage is fully equipped and despite the fact it was cold outside, the place warmed up quickly with the electric heaters. Angela, who lives next door, is very helpful. Stinson Beach is a lovely place, with a few cafes/restaurants and a surpringly well sorted grovery shop. The location is perfect for walking (e.g. Muir Woods) and all sorts of outdoor activities. 07 January 2017 - 19:06:24

We rented this property over Easter weekend and had a fantastic stay. This property is the essence of "beachfront" as the front stairs off the deck take you right to the sand. And the deck! We spent hours relaxing on it and were able to watch our kids boogie board from the deck. The inside of the property is so cozy and the front bedroom looks right on to the beach. It was lovely having the waves lull us to sleep every night. Our dog also enjoyed this property spending many lazy afternoons taking a nap on the deck as there is a doggy gate at the stairs leading to the beach so we never worried about our dog sneaking off to play with the many doggy pals she met as this extremely dog friendly beach. We didn't even get in our car the 3 days we stayed as the town center is a 5 Minute walk up the beach. The owner Angela was so easy to work with in planning our stay. The only thing we were disappointed with was that the sun umbrella on the deck was broken and we were lucky to have brought our travel sun umbrella with us to use on the deck. We will definitely rent this property again! 02 May 2015 - 05:42:14

This cottage is actually a duplex with the owner, Angela, living in the other half. You could not get closer to the beautiful Stinsen Beach. Actually you are on the beach, the water comes almost to the rear deck. The cottage had sufficient supplies and cooking utensils though I would have added a matching set of dishes. The wood stove was great. It rained almost our entire stay which was fine with us. Only wished the wood we had to use was dry. We would definitely come back, but this trip we with my son and his wife who stayed in the back bedroom. Someone, during a remodel of the cottage, blocked the bathroom door from the living area forcing those in the master bedroom to enter the back bedroom to use the bathroom. Since I often wake and need to use the bathroom this was uncomfortable for me. This is at most inconvenient and would not stop us from coming back. There are great restaurants in town but at least for lunch they were a little expensive. Definitely try the fish tacos at Parkside Cafe. Depending on your budget, it is best to bring everything you need with you and do NOT arrive needing fuel for your car. I have rented many properties on the coast from Carmel to Shelter Cove and between and this cottage is certainly one of the better ones. We will be returning for a summer stay. Thank you Angela. 10 February 2015 - 19:20:27
