Re: our recent Hong Kong rental at 65 Austin Rd, in the Lucky Building: This apartment was without a doubt the worst stay we have had in many years of extensive travel. To document our dissatisfaction we took a number of pictures of the apartment, which we did as we were leaving to display our concerns and to negate any denials that Dom might make. Several days before the trip we had twice advised Dom in emails that we were leaving home on January 27th and needed detailed instructions before we left the U.S. on the 27th, as we would have no internet access on the flights to Hong Kong, and our phone would not work in HK. We understood from the earlier emails that we could expect to meet him or his manager when we arrived at the building at 1:30 pm on the 29th. We discovered later that he actually emailed detailed instructions on the 28th, when we of course had no internet access, so we arrived with no detailed knowledge of who we would meet, how we would get in, and how we would make things work in the apartment. We arrived at the building by 1:15 and waited over an hour inside the tiny lobby. Finally we found someone kind enough to phone Dom for us. He had given the keys to a young man to wait outside the building in his car, which we didn't know. Dom said he would contact the driver, who finally arrived in the lobby. He had trouble communicating in English and knew very little about the apartment. He gave us the keys and told us how to turn on the hot water for a shower. He did not know how to make the tv work and we couldn't figure it out without instructions. Before he left we saw that there were exactly four medium-sized thin towels for four people. We made it clear to the driver that we needed more towels of different sizes, including dish towels, and he promised to have the towels brought the next day but, needless to say, they never showed up and we were left with four meager towels that never dried. Prisons provide better amenities. We called Dom (with our visiting granddaughter's phone) for instructions about using the tv. He was extremely rude and told us,You have a brain. Figure it out. That was the last time we were in contact with him. One of few good things about the situation was that the wifi at the apartment worked very well, so he knew he could contact us by email there, but he never got in touch with us for all of the rest of our stay, four nights in all. What kind of apartment owner doesn't check in to see if the situation is... 09 February 2016 - 03:37:12
