I would say the rest of the reviews of this apartment are accurate. Location, location, location. The reason you're staying here is its great location on a nice, quiet street in the West Village. There's one restaurant, right next door, that closes pretty early. Private entrance, no one else coming and going .It's a nice quiet apartment in the middle of hundreds of great restaurants and bars. Short walk to the 4th Street subway station that has literally every train you could possibly need. Yeah, it's a little dark. Yeah, there's a weird skylight over the bed. There was no weird smell that was described by a few other reviews. Great shower. The living room is a little dark and weird. But the bottom line is: You shouldn't be spending much time in the apartment. You're in the West Village, get out there. Have some fun and come home to a nice, comfortable bed in a quiet bedroom. When you wake up, go have breakfast at The Grey Dog just down the street. The owner is very easy to communicate with. Very attentive and helpful. 29 March 2016 - 15:49:00

Strong Pros and Cons: Pros include excellent location, comfortable bed, well-equipped kitchen. Cons have to do with troubling odors. When we arrived the apartment had a strong, sickly-sweet smell of air "freshener." Indeed, there were three separate individual "fresheners" in the small apartment and I found a huge container of Febreze in the bedroom closet. My husband thought he detected a chemical smell underneath the Febreze layer and so we wondered if insecticide might have been sprayed. Another distinct smell about which we are both sure was the scent of natural gas. We did mention to the owner and his explanation (that it was coming from next door) made no sense. The smell wasn't so powerful that we left (though we came close), but it was strong enough that we got headaches if we didn't leave the windows open and the kitchen fan running at all times that we were in the apartment. Pretty unpleasant and unacceptable from a health, and possibly a safety perspective. A shame, given the great location, but I wouldn't stay there again until I had a guarantee from the owner that the odor problems have been addressed. 08 May 2014 - 17:07:25

Lovely property - small kitchen - great restaurant near by. 09 September 2017 - 13:08:00

The apartment was located in a fantastic position with so many restaurants and facilities close. It was unfortunate that roadworks were being conducted right outside the front door for the full week we were there. Even worked all weekend. The apartment was great but be aware very dark and the skylight in bedroom was a nuisance in the morning being so bright. On a more positive note the apartment was extremely clean and well presented, and instructions excellent. 19 September 2017 - 20:59:00

This charming west village apartment is perfect for a New York visit. Located in the heart of the villasge on a lovely street surrounded by other beautiful streets it is near tons of restaurants, shopping, subway and history. The apartment was very comfortable and had everything we needed. I would highly recommend it. 28 September 2017 - 13:53:00

This location was perfect; 2 blocks from the subway on a line that makes it easy to get anywhere. The neighborhood was charming and quiet. I hadn't realized it was a street level apartment but that was not an issue. The bed was very comfortable, the apartment decorated nicely, and though we only used the toaster, the kitchenette was well stocked and cute. Great water pressure in the shower and lots of lovely hot water; the only grumble is a slow drain which we called to owner's attention. There are two theaters nearby, as well as lots of great restaurants and shopping. We would absolutely stay again! Renters should be forewarned that there is a much-too-delicious bakery kitty-corner across the street. 27 October 2012 - 23:13:11

The property was wonderful. It is well described and the photos accurately reflect the property. Very clean (thank you!), lots of towels, and beautifully and comfortably furnished for two people. It's close to the subway, a good grocery store, lots of restaurants and liquor stores. We could hear noise from the very nearby restaurant kitchen however, it was not overly loud, we were just aware of it. The entrance to the restaurant is around the corner so it was not at all intrusive. It was nice to come back to this lovely place after a full day in the great city of New York. Highly recommend it for a couple of any age wanting to relax and enjoy the city. P.S. I write this after Sandy hit - hope all is well for the owners of this fine property. 02 November 2012 - 18:38:39

The West Village Carriage house offers a wonderful base to enjoy the delights of New York City. It sits on the ground level (totally secure) of a wonderfully quaint and quiet street just off 7th Ave. With easy access (5-10 minute walk) to two subway stations you can be almost anywhere in the city in a matter of minutes. There are literally dozens of restaurants, bars and shops within a 10 minute walking radius. If you like extended walks you can be in Washington Square -NYU in 15 minutes or less, Lower Chelsea (14th Street) in 20 minutes or less, even the Financial District can be reached in just an easy 20-25 minutes. The apartment itself is completely equipped with plenty of nice bath towels, luxurious bedding, 2 large clothes closets, and a small but functional kitchen which includes a dishwasher, stove, microwave, and a large coffee maker.. The kitchen is also well stocked with dishes, glassware, silverware, and cooking utensils. (But who wants to cook with all the great dining options just a few minutes away?) The rooms are cozy but there is still plenty of room for 2 people to kick back and enjoy this PEACEFUL, well appointed retreat after a busy day in the bustling city. My wife and I are evening, in bed television viewers...There's a large 40" (I'm guessing) High-def Sony in the bedroom with all the high-def extended cable options you could possibly need. The business end went smoothly. I dealt with Michael Wechsler via email. Michael was great; providing all the necessary information and support. Many thanks to him. As you can probably conclude, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 7 day stay at the Carriage House. It's perfect for 2 people who want a QUIET retreat, on a pretty street in historic Greenwich Village, with easy access to all the wonders on the Big Apple. Notes: Since I refuse to spend a fortune on dinner, I recommend the following reasonably priced restaurants: COPPELIA (Cuban) located on 14th street just west of 7th Ave (.6 mile walk); GRAND SICHUAN (Chinese) located at 15 7th Ave (3 blocks South of apartment); CLOUD 9 DINER located at 360 9th Avenue in Chelsea (between 30th/31st St); DOMA NA ROHU (Eastern European) located at Bedford Street and Morton (3 blks South on Bedford); KATZ'S DELI (lunch) on Houston St east of 1st Ave (approx 2 miles from apt.); JUNIORS (lunch) in Grand Central Station....Average bill for two $36+tip. 11 May 2013 - 00:17:48

This is simply a great place to stay. All just as advertised, clean, well-maintained and located on a quiet street just a block from the action in Greenwich Village. Anything you want to do- restaurants, bars, shops- is easily within walking distance, and the subway is just a few blocks away. There's a full kitchen (which we didn't use), a large flat screen TV with full cable, good wifi connection, and much more. Booklovers should check out the Three Lives Bookstore, close by on W. 10th St., and we especially enjoyed browsing old vinyl in the Village's several record stores. On a very rainy Sunday it was great to have more space than a hotel room so we could relax until the weather improved. The owner was very prompt in responding to all of our questions and left detailed instructions about accessing the apartment, as well as helpful info about neighborhood stores, laundry, etc. Would definitely stay here again and recommend highly to others. 24 May 2013 - 15:02:53

If you need to be downtown - perfect apartment - if more than served our needs - price was good - you need to know the area to be more than satisfied as we were 09 June 2013 - 02:08:26

We travel a fair bit and prefer to stay in apartments as they usually offer a little more room and the option to self- cater if we want to. I can honestly say that this was the best equipped apartment located in a large city that we have ever stayed in. Loads of fresh, fluffy towels ( not that we used that many) but usually you get two, thin, hard towels for a week etc. Plenty of cleaning products provided so you don't have to go and buy goods you will barely use and then leave behind. Thanks Michael, these are really thoughtful touches. The apartment is very well located with a 5-10 minute ( max) walk to two subway stations. The area has really interesting shops and restaurants; try Fish and Empallon Taqueria and is very safe. Every thing you need for a short term stay is provided and the apartment was spotlessly clean. The apartment is whisper quiet so you get a great sleep in a very comfortable bed. We also stayed in the middle of a heat wave so I can attest that the a/c works very well. Thanks for letting us stay Michael in your lovely apartment! 30 July 2013 - 21:57:20

I was in NY for a conference this past week and my wife decided to join me on this trip. The place was kept very well and the location is absolutely perfect. One quick heads up for the future renters is that there's a nice sky light in the bedroom but in the morning, it could become quite bright. Luckily we both brought eye masks. 31 July 2013 - 06:26:35

After reading so many reviews through the years, I think it might be important to know that this review is being submitted by a couple in their mid-40's who are active, love to travel, and enjoy eating well, and who have been to NYC several times. That being said, this apartment/house was absolutely perfect for us. It was beautifully furnished and decorated, very clean, and the owners used the space so wisely. Also, I could write a paragraph devoted to the shower, but I will leave it at . . . there is plenty of hot water, and it is a powerful shower that seemed at times more like a sauna or steam treatment. Awesome! The description and pictures are very accurate. The owner was also kind enough to be flexible in accommodating our check-in and check-out times because of our flight times. Yes, it is beside a small, busy restaurant, and you can hear some kitchen activity at times, but we did not find it disturbing at all. We loved the neighborhood, and also found it to be an easy walk to either of the 2 subway stops nearby. Bottom line: If possible, we would stay here EVERY time we visited NYC. The restaurants that we most enjoyed were: Colicchio & Sons, Balthazar, Gramercy Tavern, Minetta Tavern, Suteishi, and Boqueria SoHo. Other diners/food places that we really liked were Sarge's Deli, French Roast, Faicco's, and Murray's. In past trips, we have experienced and enjoyed the tourist "mainstays." This trip, we enjoyed strolling The High Line, The Cloisters, the Financial District, Battery Park, The SeaPort, and Washington Square Park. For other fun, evening entertainment, we saw the Broadway musical, Chicago, we listened to live music at Terra Blues, and we visited Raines Law Room. A review is simply one person's opinion, so do your "research" and find places and attractions that interest you . . . and your fellow travelers. I hope you will be as lucky as we were to find a great place to stay. 09 June 2014 - 18:47:22

All of the other reviews said it all. We loved our stay in the " carriage house," and hope to stay there every time we go to New York! So, shhhhh, don't tell anyone! 15 June 2015 - 22:59:37

Great little apartment in the best location in the city. Easily get to anywhere via nearby subway stations. Grocery, liquor and restaurants all nearby. Pros: Location, location, location Private (on the main level, but screens keep the looky-loos from seeing in) Kitchen (tiny, but who wants to cook in NYC?) Comfy bed Cozy sitting room (great for hanging out in if it's raining) Air conditioned We were able to check in early. Cons Must keep screens closed to keep people from looking in. Tub drains veeery slowly. Bedroom has only an uncovered skylight above the bed for a window, but if you remember to bring a sleep-mask you'll be fine. No hand towels for kitchen. Communication with property manager was spotty. Had to ask same questions several times before getting an answer. All in all a very satisfactory stay. The location alone is enough to recommend it, everything else is just gravy. 16 August 2015 - 00:41:25

We loved the property and accessibility it allowed to explore all of NYC. Great restaurants and services in the area. We particularly enjoyed Giuliettas Cantina. Unfortunately there is some major roadwork currently being done which starts at 7am and lasts the entire day. This isnt pick and shovel roadwork, but front-end loaders dragging enormous sheets of steel up and down the road along with chainsaws and other related industrial tools. We found it difficult to work in the mornings and sleep past 7am was very difficult. Before booking, I would recommend checking with owner about the current road conditions. Saying that, we would definitely stay here again and would recommend to family and friends. 10 November 2017 - 22:30:00

The apartment was everything I had hoped for and beyond the description. Beginning with clear entry instructions and a welcoming bottle of wine and a coke in the refrigerator through a lovely skylight over the bed to greet the sunrise, to unusually quiet street life, this was a perfect small pied d'etre with enough closet space and seating for a couple and guests. Everything was clean, and as described and pictured. Murray's cheese store, Hummus place, Hudson Street restaraunts and stores made shopping on Bleeker Street and 7th Avenue a walkable pleasure. Buses and subways are perfectly located within a block. 22 November 2013 - 18:27:37

LOVED this place. The apartment is perfect for 2. Private street entrance. Tiny kitchen but with everything you would want - coffee maker, oven with 4 burners, toaster, waffle iron, French press, full-size dishwasher. Bedroom has a skylight - owner thoughtfully provided sleep masks. The living room was cozy and delightful to visit with our kids. Found box of chocolate awaiting us on the bed. The street is one block off a busy thoroughfare, but the apartment, despite being on the street level, was quiet and private. Great location - walking distance to 2 major subway lines, Washington Square Park, Hudson River Park, High Line, and many many great restaurants. We had a great stay and can't wait to return. I definitely recommend this lovely apartment! 02 January 2018 - 18:10:00
