Thank you so much Brendan for allowing us to stay in your apartment! It was just what our family of six needed. We felt safe and slept really well because all the beds were comfortable with wonderful blankets. It was nice to have the washer/dryer, as we were able to wash a load of clothes one day. The kitchen was sparking clean which allowed us to feel comfortable using the plates, glasses and silverware. Being that we're NBA fans, we loved having TVs to watch the games into the night. We had easy access to the subway and were able to find wonderful places to grab food in the area. We felt comfortable and were able to enjoy our trip to New York! Thanks for providing such a wonderful place for our stay! 09 May 2016 - 17:58:00

What a great place with an even better host!! Brendan was great to work with and very responsive. It's hard to find a place to stay with a king size bed. This place has 3. The tv's are really good. I would recommend this home to anyone we really felt like we were at home. 11 December 2016 - 13:05:00

A group of 6 stayed in the house. We all slept great & the house was big to move around in. We all especially loved the washer & dryers. Thanks for the great stay Brenden! 29 September 2015 - 14:39:00

We have nothing but praise for our home away. It was the first time to NYC for all our family and we were excited but nervous. The minute we walked into our place we felt at home and comfortable. It was clean and had all the amenities we needed. Loved having a washer and dryer and having a grocery store a few blocks away. The subway was close and made easy access to everywhere we needed to go. Great takeout places but we never found a sit down restaurant nearby. Would highly recommend and definitely will stay here again if we come back to NYC. We all agreed it was the best family vacation ever. 01 November 2015 - 16:29:01

We have spent 7 days in Brendan's place, we were 4 adults, 3 teenagers and 1 child. First experience in NYC for 6 of them . Our stay had definitly been perfect from the first to the last day, the flat was perfect for 2 families, comfortable, clean and well equiped. Brendan was very convenient. Walking to the subway station was very easy and the neighboorhood safe. It was really nice to come back every evening in our home, have dinner, make ourselves relax. we really enjoyed the small garden behind , it was so nice to have a drink there in the evening. I will definitly recommend the flat to family and friends and will not hesitate to book it again for my future stay in NYC ! Marion and family from Paris, France 24 November 2015 - 08:14:12

The cherry on the top of our fabulous week in the big apple, was being able to stay at Brendan's home! Thank you Brendan! From the moment we began searching for a home to stay in while visiting our daughter in the city and throughout our stay, it was flawless! Brendan was so responsive to questions and requests we never wanted for anything. Brendan's home is convenient to everything, comfortable, amazingly clean, the amenities in the home couldn't have been better and have I mentioned the beds that are soooo comfortable! After long days of sight seeing we always knew we were coming home to a wonderful place to stay. Thank you again Brendan! We WILL be back! If you're considering g this home for your stay, my advice would be, don't hesitate, book it! You won't be sorry! 24 July 2016 - 18:32:00

We rented this property for eight adults traveling to Brooklyn for a family wedding. It turned out to be perfect - plenty of private sleeping space, but cozy enough to hang out and eat together. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed in terms of appliances and cookware - we brought food and made breakfasts and lunch at "home." We had three cars between us and always found parking very close by. Brendan was an accommodating host, who gave us all of the information and directions we needed to make our stay seamless and comfortable. There is also a washer/dryer which was great - we washed towels during our stay (maybe a few more in the place would be good!). The house was perfectly clean and beautifully maintained - wifi worked perfectly, plenty of home entertainment for those who wanted it. Restaurant suggestions were much appreciated and there are good bodegas nearby for grocery needs. We would definitely return to Brendan's place and will recommend it for any group looking to stay in Brooklyn. 24 June 2015 - 13:29:29

We had a group of 15 so booked both the upstairs and downstairs apartments together. The amount of space was fantastic for such a large group. The King beds were really comfortable and spacious. The quality of the furniture was great, from the moment you arrived it felt as if you were home. It wasn't far on the train to Manhattan but there was also so much to explore around Brooklyn as well. Brendan was great to communicate with and would always respond to emails within 24 hours. My group and I would definitely stay here again if we we come back to NYC. Thanks Brendan 24 June 2015 - 04:14:54

We (4 adults, 2 teenagers ages 16 & 17) stayed in Brendan's apartment over the Easter break. Although I was initially a bit unsure about staying outside of Manhattan (for a change), I have to say that it was the right choice especially re quality and price for our needs. You will not often find an apartment like this in NY. It was well equipped with all fundamentals and more and the extra space, TVs, etc. was great considering the different requirements of 6 people. Added bonus: no fighting over the bathroom in the morning :-) It was no problem to kick back - without being crowded - order a pizza and chill after a day of roaming around the city. Re the neighbourhood: Bushwick/Jefferson Ave is not a high-end city centre area. It doesn't have a great reputation especially if you listen to your taxi driver! That being said - don't let anyone put you off. We took walks around the neighbourhood - it is a pretty average, working-class residential area. Some streets were spic and span, others less so. We experienced friendly neighbours, helpful NYers in the local supermarket and subway. We could keep the windows open at night and not be disturbed by street traffic - anyone who travels will know that this is normally impossible in a city (hotel or otherwise) - and if the neighbour upstairs was a bit loud one night, it seemed a fair trade off! The J train is a few blocks away, the express train takes 15 mins into lower Manhattan. The supermarket by the J is well-equipped and had everything we needed. The L train is 10 -15 minutes walk - in a not-so-pretty neighbourhood that we subsequently avoided. MTA is not great at informing people about rail works - the J train was signposted (days in advance) as being closed over the weekend, but was actually working. So don't take the signs at face value - check first, you are not dealing with German efficiency :-) On this point, we tried an alternative for late nights when we didn't want to get the J or L train or pay for a car service from Manhattan - we got the subway (N or Q etc) to Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn (near Carroll Gardens). We spent a few evenings here, checking out the great restaurants on Atlantic Ave and Fulton Street and spent $20 in a taxi back to Jefferson Ave. We had a great time in this apartment. Thanks to Brendan for a well-kept property. We recommend the apartment to similar groups. 27 April 2014 - 17:53:22

The property was just as we expected, which was perfect. Brendan made sure we had everything we needed and we didn't need to do a thing (like washing sheets, cleaning etc) before leaving, which was nice as we had to leave at 5am on our last day. Loved it and would definitely recommend! 25 March 2014 - 16:00:22

When we first arrived we noticed that the walls were dirty and the basement had a bad smell. Upon further investigation we found the so called maid had left behind the basement toilet full of dirt and grit, cob webs, dust bunnies, and dirt everywhere in the house. Less than a day later the sewer system backed up into the shower, there was actual sewage floating in the shower. We called Brenden and he said he would have it taken care of the next day.( During this time we couldn't use anything water related in the basement) The next day a plumber came and told Brenden what he would have to do and how much it would be. We over heard Brenden very angrily tell the plumber he would not except it and told my daughter that he would call around and have someone come the next day. Thursday it was finally fixed and we had no further problems with the plumbing. Other than the plumbing the house has LOTS of spiders, mice, and the long term renters upstairs sound like giants over your head! We informed Benden and he said he would get traps, but he never came back with them. We dealt with these issue and didn't complain. And then on our long drive home to Michigan Brenden sends us several messages accusing us of clogging the main floor toilet. We had a horrid experience last year and was very hopeful this one would be better. Lesson learned. We don't plan on EVER renting a vacation property again. 28 September 2013 - 03:07:03

The apartment was very modern, clean and comfortable. It was great to be so close to subway and to have so many stores around the corner. It was nice to be able to cook and make drinks..not to mention it saved us money. We enjoyed everything about our stay and look to rent this place again. 23 September 2013 - 14:38:34

we stayed in this house for a week, two families with 4 kids. The kids stayed downstairs, adults upstairs...so everyone had his own space! the house is as it looks like in the pictures, very clean, the kithcen is very well equipped. The neighborhood is safe and quiet. When you come back from Manhattan at 6 pm, you find a lot of people on the stairs outside houses, listening to music or just talking. The metro station is 5 minutes walk, and it takes more or less 30 minutes to get to Times Square. I definitely recommend this property. 04 September 2014 - 18:23:34

The furnishings (besides one bed that was had a broken leg and remained broken for the duration of our visit) and amenities were comfortable and adequate. There was plenty of room for my family and we were close enough to the convenience stores, grocery store and subway as the description said we'd be. Our first impression was not a good one because the bathrooms and kitchen weren't clean, but instead seemed recently used. We felt as if we had walked in to someone else's home and they had just stepped out. We contacted the owner right away and within a relatively brief time he had someone come by to clean. He explained why he thought we may have found it that way and was apologetic. We appreciated him trying to fix the problem immediately. There were a few things I would have liked to have been different/tidier but overall we had a comfortable stay and really enjoyed our New York City experience. 14 August 2015 - 06:11:18

Thank you Brendan for being so helpful and calming my brother, sister and her husband after our frightening adventure at the train station. You were able to assure them that we were in a safe location and we were able to enjoy the time we had in New York. The house was beautiful and the beds were all very comfortable. Thank you again Brendan for being such caring and compassionate person. 26 September 2015 - 21:14:09

My family and I drove there from Texas, which was a planned vacation. We had a good stay there and the neighborhood was nice and quite. I highly recommend the corner store on Evergreen for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Great location, close to anywhere you may want to go in the city. I highly recommend this place especially since the owner is fixing the backyard to look simply marvelous. If you like to do some grilling during your stay here hopefully by then the backyard will be completed. The owner was very nice and courteous and let us stay an extra night for free due to hurricane Harvey's situation my son's flight was cancelled. God is good. Again I highly recommend especially to those who have a large family. 10 September 2017 - 17:48:00

For our annual trip to New York, my family and I usually look to lodge somewhere that has the comforts and conveniences similar to home. This property certainly met our expectations. First of all, we prefer to pick up groceries so that we can prepare a few meals rather than eat out often. Having a full kitchen as well as two grills on the patio, (one gas and one charcoal), was a definite plus. Since it was five of us, with the guys out numbered, we appreciated the two bathrooms. The bedrooms all had king size beds and enough storage space for our belongings. Having a washer and dryer in the apartment was another convenience, so we didn't worry about packing a lot of clothes. There are televisions with cable in all of the bedrooms and living spaces. This provided added entertainment for our two small children in the evening after a long eventful day. The owner provided personal touches such as umbrellas in the front closet. One of the days we were there it rained all day. We needed to use one of the umbrellas from the apartment. Although we bring our own cleaning materials, there are cleaning materials and clothes detergent in the unit. The neighborhood felt safe and was quiet most of the time. Be aware on the weekends there may be a party or two occurring. On Saturday night of our stay, there was a party in the evening with loud music until 3:00am. Travel into Manhattan was easy. The J train is only about an 8 minute walk from the apartment, and a 20 minute ride into lower Manhattan. Add another 29 minutes to the commute if you're looking to travel into Upper Manhattan. I decided to rate our experience four stars because we did have to deal with ants in the apartment. Make sure you sweep up any food or crumbs that have fallen on the floor, or you will have a trail of ants all around them. Also, the bathrooms had rust and mildew spots around the floor and shower in the basement. We used a bleach cleaner and were fine. The grout lines in the kitchen and bathroom floor tiles were also a bit dirty. Could have been scrubbed by the cleaning crew. Overall though, we really enjoyed our stay. This property was a comfort and convenience to my family of five. Especially after a long day of adventure. We will definitely consider this property on future trips to NY! 19 July 2017 - 04:27:00

We stayed at this apartment on our family trip to NYC. The apartment itself was nice and spacious. However, we cannot recommend this place because the negatives outweighed the positives. First, the total trip time into the city ended up being an hour by the time you walked to the train station and actually got to most places you would want to see in downtown Manhattan. Second, while the neighborhood didn't feel too unsafe during the day none of us felt comfortable once it got dark. We were very nervous whenever we walked home after dark and while we did not actually have anything happen to us but we saw quite a few things that made us nervous and were all relieved when we left without incident. The third negative was it was SUPER loud from the noise from the people staying upstairs. The last negative almost ruined our whole trip. Brenden promised us that he would have a pack n play in the apartment for us when we arrived for our 1 year old. When we arrived it wasn't there and we contacted him and he said he had forgotten and it was too late for him to get one (this was around 6 or 7 pm) and then tried to blame us for not reminding him about it even though my mom had e-mailed him only a few days prior about this very thing! He promised to have it to us the next day. Well, we got no sleep because there was nowhere for our child to sleep that night. The next day he never showed up with the pack n play so we called him again and he said "sorry" and he'd bring it the next day. We told him that we were unable to sleep because our child was up most of the night and he promised to bring it. Well, he didn't bring it the next day either and we tried to contact him for the next FOUR days and he never once called us back even after numerous phone calls and e-mail messages. He finally got back with us two days before we were supposed to leave and said he'd get it to us the next day (so our FINAL night in a week long stay). He claimed he had a family emergency but he could have at the very least let us know that on the first day. He never offered to discount our rate or do anything to make up for the fact that our trip was nearly ruined by having no where for our one year old to sleep. One of the main reason we chose his apartment over others was because he said he would have a pack n play. We were extremely upset that he dodged us the whole week and made multiple promises that he never kept. We would not recommend this place to anyone for these reasons. 31 March 2016 - 14:00:52

Water leak made one restroom unusable and one of the A/C units didn't work. The kitchen was not well stocked with tools necessary to make a real meal and was disorganized and dirty. 21 June 2017 - 19:11:00

This is a spacious place for a family to stay with plenty of room to spread out. Some tips for upcoming travelers: 1). Download the NYC subway app for your phone. This is a great tool to help you navigate the NYC subway system. This was our first trip to NYC and we learned the subway system quickly 2) the Halsey St subway stop is a quick walk. When coming out of the duplex turn left and walk up Jefferson. You will come to the subway (J) in about 2 blocks. You will have to turn left at the cross street to get onto the subway. We purchased a week subway pass for $31 per person. It has unlimited rides and is a cheap way to travel in the city. 3) there are previous reviews noting concerns with safety. Not once did we ever experience any safety concerns. One night we walked home from the subway around midnight after visiting the Empire State Building. There were several people on the subway and also walking along the street 4) a nice grocery store is right by the subway station and makes a perfect stop after getting off the subway on your way back to the duplex for lunch meat, bread and late nights sweets or snacks. 27 July 2016 - 14:23:00
