About listing

The barn is a country-lovers dream, where old oak timbers mix sympathetically with green oak to form a fantastic living space with a massive inglenook fireplace and where the galleried landing looks down on the comfy settees near a friendly wood burner and next to a spacious dining area and newly fitted oak kitchen. There are three beautiful double bedrooms with full en-suite facilities. One with bath and two with shower. There is an additional folding guest bed or cot for children. Step outside onto your barn patio where you are surrounded by open fields and views complemented by the newly restored farm buildings, including a picturesque stable block with clock tower. A 3 minute stroll takes you into Ewhurst village where you will find pubs serving food, shops & village sports facilities. The old parish church adds to the feeling of history you sense when visiting. Ewhurst also has a cricket club and Hurtwood Country Polo Club. Guildford, Cranleigh & pictureque Shere are nearby.

As a group of 7 friends we stayed in the barn conversion for a bank holiday weekend. In advance and on arrival, Ian was very hospitable and helpful. He offered to help receive an online grocery delivery when I thought I would be late, and gave me a detailed tour of the barn on arrival. The barn itself has been immaculately restored, to high spec throughout. It is very thoughtfully and generously equipped, including with cooking ingredients and a cupboard of kids' books/games. Ian also leant us his BBQ to enjoy the garden (including blackberry picking!). The large outdoor area feels very secluded despite the property's close proximity to Ewhurst village. It felt like a great rural retreat. Thoroughly recommended. 15 September 2015 - 20:58:32

We arrived early on Tuesday morning and woke Ian from his bed. Despite the early hour Ian was nothing but gracious and charming, settling us in to a beautifully restored barn with exposed beams, a fully equipped kitchen, charming bedrooms and a truly stunning garden/field that backs onto the woods. Many a morning we have awoken to deer or foxes scurrying across the fields which, coming from Singapore was a delight for us all. Whenever we have previously returned to the UK we have stayed in lesser accommodation and have subsequently had to travel far and wide to see friends and family. This time everyone came here because the place is so charming. Ian is the perfect host, even giving us his bbq when occasion required. We will certainly be coming back. Thank you Ian 13 August 2015 - 07:58:11

My wife, my mother in law and our two teenage boys very enjoyed a peacefull and relaxing time at this wonderfull place. The barn is well equipped and maintained with everything you need. The owner is a very helpfull and friendly person, was always ready to help if we needed something or a recommendation for a journey or going out for diner . The kitchen is just superb and the fireplace is amazing. You can see at every detail, that the owner wants you to feel comfortable and really at home. Many thanks to you Ian and if we`ll have the opportunity we would love to come again. 10 January 2017 - 20:35:00

The house/barn was lovely and had everything we needed. Since it is not near a busy road and lots of open space , made it a safe place for the kids to run outside.Location was great. Within a short walk was a great playground for young children. The next village was easily gotten to by walking the 2 miles or taking the bus. Lots to do for kids in Cranleigh. 22 June 2017 - 13:09:00

Really enjoyed staying here with my family. A nice and spacious cottage. Our welcome from the owner was superb!! He even supplied the first basic needs in the refrigerator. As a very nice gesture a vase with beautiful fresh flowers had been put into the cottage upon our arrival. We very much would like to return in the near future. 21 August 2017 - 11:06:00

The owners have done an excellent job at converting the barn into a beautiful holiday rental. The pictures do not do the interior justice! The masterpiece of the barn is the stylish, well thought out and well equipped kitchen area with its huge range (no picture on holidayrental.co.uk yet!) We cooked a hot Sunday lunch for 12 and it was a breeze. We had glorious weather whilst in Ewhurst and had the living area floor to ceiling glass doors open throughout the day and the patio instantly became an extension of the living space in the barn. Beautiful. The owners who also live on site are extremely friendly and keen that their guests enjoy their stay. They were attentive without being imposing and were always available to help with requests that we had. 05 June 2009 - 15:58:59

What an amazing place! So much love has been put into every detail of the decor, every bit as good as or better than a 5 star hotel. Stunning location with plenty of walks in the beautiful surrounding area. Situated so close to London this is an excellent alternative to staying in the city. The owners extended such hospitality making every effort to make us feel welcome and at home. This really was a home away from home. We certainly intend to return. Highly recommended! 24 June 2009 - 18:13:11

The photos of this Barn do not do it justice, it is a glorious tranquil, beautifully furnished, comfortable and wonderful place in a fantastic setting. I have just returned from spending two great days with six of us on a Hen weekend and we could not have found a better place to have fun and relax in. The weather let us down for the first day but that did not spoil our time there and we had a picnic outside the tall french windows on the second. The property is beautifully maintained and well equipped for guests - the fridge was stocked with essentials which was a lovely surprise and the owner was welcoming and attentive when we required it. It was a memorable break and I really hope I will be able to return. 11 August 2009 - 18:46:55

I rented this amazing converted barn for my best friends Hen weekend. When we arrived and walked into the barn, it was breath taking..the whole place was stunning with a warm, homely atmosphere. I couldn't believe my luck in finding such a beautiful place to celebrate such a special occasion..it was perfect..I'm very picky but it was just perfect!!!! I would & will recommend this barn to all my friends & if an occasion arises again, I would definately book again. The owner is very friendly and more than helpful during our stay. It's just lovely! 11 August 2009 - 22:35:39

We had a wonderful stay at Thornhurst Brook Farm back in February. The barn itself is beautiful and the refurbishment work was done in such a manner as to deliver exquisite high-end finishes and functionality while retaining the maximum character (the kitchen in particular drew the envy of all our visitors). There was plenty of room for entertaining and despite the weather the barn was always cozy and inviting. Last but certainly not least, Ian and Denise were extremely welcoming and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was as hassle-free as possible. 26 May 2010 - 13:47:26

We had our summer holiday here, with two children aged 4 and 2, after visiting family and friends, and it was perfect. The pictures do not do it justice, as it has such a homely feel and the owners, Denise and Ian, have really thought about making it a home from home for their visitors. We had visitors, who were welcomed by the owners, and catering was easy. Its proximity to Cranleigh makes is easy for provisions, and the shop at the end of the drive is excellent for the bits you forget! Would recommend for all ages, as the outside space is perfect for energetic littles ones, whilst entertaining friends, or just relaxing. We will certainly try to return should our holidays in the future allow us. 04 September 2010 - 15:29:25

We recently returned to Chicago after a short stay at the Barn. We chose the Barn mainly because of its proximity to the local church and also Pitch Hill, as we were attending a family wedding in Ewhurst, but, as it turned out, we made a fantastic choice! The Barn was truly amazing! It had a well-equipped, spacious kitchen - open to the large living room seating area - which made for a comfortable, relaxed, friendly atmosphere for our family. The owners very thoughtfully filled the refrigerator with essentials and some "goodies" that were enjoyed by all. We had perfect weather and were able to sit out on the large patio and enjoy the spectacular views surrounding the Barn. It was very peaceful and secluded, yet not isolated ... as our many trips to the local pub proved! The space was just right for the 5 of us, but could easily accommodate more. It was very important to us that the Barn was super clean, bright, airy and cheerful and everyone who visited us commented on the modern, spacious kitchen and the fact that the barn had retained its original charm. The owners respected our privacy during our stay and yet we always felt that if we had any questions or concerns, we could go over and chat with Ian. We all came away with great memories of our stay at the Barn and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a tranquil, comfortable place to stay in the most scenic part of Surrey. Truly a gem! 22 September 2010 - 15:49:03

All the reviews for this brilliant barn conversion are spot on, it was perfect for our requirements. Ian and Denise took care of all requirements even compensating us with a freshly homemade cake and bottle of wine because the gas was off for a day (which wasnt an inconvenience). There is a very good little shop a short walk away and a playground not far away for those with little ones. For anyone wanting a stay in this area I cant believe you can do better. 11 November 2010 - 13:10:09

What a gem in the Surrey Hills this is..it certainly has the wow factor ..it doesn't get better than this! We lived in Surrey for many years so knew the area to a degree we were staying with family members from Ireland for my son's wedding and staying at the Barn just added to the occasion. Attention to detail was amazing everything was 'high end' as was the cleanliness ..fresh flowers and goodies in the fridge even some fresh herbs on the windowsill made us feel very welcome on arrival. We were a party of 5 and needed it to be suitable for a disabled member..it ticked that box too.We were very lucky with weather and used the bio doors daily ..entertaining was easy it's so spacious..we even had a BBQ. Local shop and pub were great. Ian and Denise are very friendly cannot do enough to make your stay enjoyable..yet respect your privacy. We enjoyed a candlelit glass of wine with them one evening..al fresco!! Yes in May! Would recommend without hesitation and do hope to return at some stage. {Denise's marmalade is also highly recommended..fantastic] 14 May 2011 - 17:53:13

The barn was the perfect place for our group of two families. Ian and Denise have done a great job equipping the place with everything one could possibly need, including some yummy home made jam. We even used their landline on the first day as we were coordinating between car rentals and my sister's arrival. Walks in the woods and relaxing on the patio was just what we needed in between wedding parties and trips to the city. My young one was delighted to share her apple with a horse on one of her walks, the athlete with us enjoyed running in the woods and the teenagers were in heaven with the Wi-Fi connectivity. The big room was perfect for our two families to spend time with each other as we were traveling from different parts of the world. Thank you Ian and Denise! We stayed here with 2 small children for over a week and had a wonderful time. The barn has a lovely open plan living space with a very well equipped kitchen and was easy to live in. We hosted a few friends whilst we stayed too, and one day had 10 adults with 9 young children racing around the grounds outside; all commented on what a great place it was and with the doors open onto the garden it didn't once feel crowded. The local shop is within a five minute walk and has most basics, with bigger supermarkets and shops within a few minutes drive. The local area is stunning, although as the barn is in a small village along many narrow country roads it can take a while to drive to places. Lots of footpaths and countryside to explore though right on the doorstep if you don't want to travel too far. The only issue we had during our stay was that the beds in both the downstairs bedrooms all seemed to be less than full size single beds. They were fine for children but only just about ok for tall adults, so if you plan to use the downstairs bedrooms be aware of this. The Double bed upstairs is fine. Other than that I'd recommend fully for a relaxing break and would happily go back again. 03 May 2017 - 21:27:00

Stayed here over Christmas. The barn was a perfect place to unwind. Location was very good for us. Felt away from the hustle bustle but was still very close to Cranleigh and Shere (both have restaurants, shops) and London...if you feel you need a little action. Loved Pitch Hill and Leith Hill which are close by...you can go for nice walks on the public footpath right outside the barn. Took a day trip to Hampton Court which was also very close. The cottage itself is well equipped and we loved the wood burning stove. The owner was very helpful and attentive. Helped us pick a few places to eat and his choices were very good! We enjoyed chatting with Ian and if we find ourselves needing another getaway in this area we would definitely stay again at the barn. 10 January 2018 - 22:19:00
